Isn’t that just the most adorable name for a tea shop?
Tea and Little Cakes contacted us just after Christmas about becoming a Vintage Norwich sponsor. We’d walked past a few times, but never been in, so we thought it was time to go and check them out!
At first glance the decor looks quite modern, dare I say “funky” (no, I really shouldn’t) but on closer inspection it’s a gorgeous mix of old and new.
The old wooden beams of it’s Timberhill home are hung with modern stainless steel lamps and ultra modern white plastic chairs sit around dark wood tables (Note: Vintage Norwich has been advised these chairs are based on a 1949 Eames chair, thanks to Poppy Valentine! They are modernist in style and contrast to the table!). Drinks are served with vintage tea cups, but modern tea pots and all around the walls are interesting pictures, quirky clocks and other little touches that make it a really interesting place to stop for a spot of tea.
They serve Vintage Norwich’s favourite tea, Tea Pigs, no bags full of dust here, this is delicious full leaf tea. We think the menu is anything but vintage, but we also think this is a good thing! The food looks absolutely delicious and they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner until 10pm 6 days a week.
On Valentines Day they have a special offer, £22 for 3 courses including a glass of prosecco, and we’re salivating slightly over the thought of pear and blue cheese souffle.
If you really do just fancy some little cakes with your tea then they have a yummy looking range of those as well, all displayed on a vintage dresser.
We love the fact that TALC is licensed, it’s good to be able to enjoy a nice glass of wine without the “pub” atmosphere sometimes. It’s also handily placed for the Mall, and on the walk into the city for those that live on the south side.
All in all we were impressed with the new addition to the cafe scene in Norwich. It’s perfectly pitched between vintage modern, without a hint of twee.
You can also visit the TALC Cafe Facebook page as they seem to keep it well updated with special offers and news.
